Good morning. Our last round of winter weather ended up hitting New England yesterday and our next round will now hit areas more south. Snow moves into the Baltimore/Washington to Philadelphia area late tonight and continues through tomorrow. A few inches of snow can be expected all the way up to central NJ. To the north, its more of a light accumulation.
After this period, we then need to watch another two storm systems for late this weekend and middle of next week. Those appear to be more north focused and I will comment more as the days go on. One of them can end up being a big storm. This pattern is looking to produce.
Back to our current event, here is my forecast...
The timing is late tonight through tomorrow with worst impacts through the morning hours on Thursday. There will be a break in the snow before one last round moves through Thursday night. As you can see areas in Northern VA and western MD and southern PA I expect a very decent accumulation. For all other areas 2-4" is a very good bet.
By late tonight snow is spreading into the area...
By daybreak Thursday it is still snowing moderate for many areas...
There is then a break in the snowfall until another burst of snow moves through Thursday night. This time it may be more focused to the west...
That is why I have highest snow amounts out over western MD, VA and southern PA.
Our next storm threat then appears to be on Sunday. This storm should be focused more in the northeast with a chance the northern Mid-Atlantic gets in on the action. Here is a projection from one model below for Sunday..
Some other models are more west of this and have more of an ice event for NNJ and snow to the interior.
Using historical analogs, here is the best place for accumulating snow as seen by the warm colors...
We then have another storm to deal with for middle of next week. I will reserve any comments for now. Needless to say, it will be very hard to escape the next 10 days with no additional snow in your backyard.
