Good morning. The good news is the worst of this historic winter storm is over. The bad news is light to moderate snow will linger for many areas today. Expect a few more inches to accumulate across the region by the time we get to the evening. I opened the comment section to report your totals to me.
The totals coming from this storm have been extremely impressive. In NNJ, I measured 29" in my backyard (see pic below) and some areas exceeded 30". All these totals will go up a little today. Pretty remarkable the duration of this storm. I will likely be a top 5 for many. I thought I had a chance at the record, as I had 19 inches by 1pm yesterday, but between 1pm and this morning I only got an additional 10". If I get another inch or two today, this storm will tie 1996 and 2016 for my backyard (give or take). As a note, with storms like this you need to measure every 6 hours then clear the area to get accurate snow measurements. Otherwise, the snow compacts and your total will be too low.
Things then stay calm for rest of the week until some light rain/snow Friday then the potential for another big storm Sun into Monday. I will wait till tomorrow to comment on Sun/Mon, as I want to spend more time evaluating that today.
Back to our current storm, as of 7am the radar shows snow over the area in particular NW NJ and New England..
Our storm is stalled off the NJ coast and will slowly move NE later today...
Snow will move through from north to south as the counter clockwise spin of this storm shows itself.
By this evening, the light to moderate snow should be winding down...
Models shows some areas receives a few additional inches today...
Overall my snowfall forecast did very well this time. I had a good jump on this with my original map posted on Friday..
To my final forecast posted on Sunday morning...
It paid off to stick to my guns and not buy the southern storm track that models originally showed. I will evaluate this vs the final tallies once all the reports come in.
I will check in and take a look at the final snow totals regionwide later tonight.
