Tuesday: Light Snow Tomorrow for Some, Long Range Can Deliver

Quick note today as I will go into detail on some things later this week. We have a period of light snow that will move through parts of the region tomorrow associated with a clipper like system moving through the area...

Now in situations like this the snow usually breaks up once it gets towards the coast. What I would expect is the higher elevations of NW NJ can see some light accumulations with this late tomorrow morning with just the chance at some flakes elsewhere.

The models try to show this...

Things then warm up for the weekend with some rain later on Saturday into Sunday morning.

There is more cold in the wake of the rain then our attention turns to the period up to Christmas.

There are many calling for a warm rest of December with no snow. I do not see things that way. In the upper levels of the atmosphere a lot is going on to suggest otherwise. We have a polar vortex that is modeled to weaken and higher pressures expected to develop over the higher latidiudes...

The red or high pressure over Greenland and the pole is a pattern that supports cold shots to move through the area next several weeks. Given there will be a lot of energy flying around, I think there is a shot we see accumulating snow leading up to Christmas.

Stay tuned, more to come later this week.
