Tuesday Evening Storm Update: Very Close to Major Impacts

The video below gives my take on the powerful storm that will move into the region Thursday. Still some uncertainty with how close this gets to the coast, but the trends today were more in the favor of my snowfall map put out this morning. The bottom line is I think anyone from I-95 to the east needs to be on alert for potential major impacts from this.

More details in the video. The next update will be tomorrow morning.

  1. This is still a horserace !! As you see and mention on your Tweet, the latest NAM (00z) seems to have that northern air rapidly knifing down into Pennsylvania, just in time to push the 950-ish low out to sea by compressing its back-end. Too cold to snow back there! Thus not many flakes falling west of the NJ Turnpike. The low coming up is powerful and has a lot of potential, as you say in your video; but that cold air coming down is also extraordinarily powerful !!! This is the battle of two monsters. But your best friend so far model-wise has been the Canadian, that has been consistently snow-oriented. Not the highest skilled model, but you never know, they might get one right now and then. 1. Yup these models are all tools and each one always has its good day. There will be a sharp cutoff with this system likely around I-95 give or take 30 miles east or west given that cold dry air and banding to the east that will cause sinking air to the west. Will be really fun to track this final approach!
