Severe Storms Tonight

I didnt have time to post this morning but we have more severe weather to deal with over next few hours. We are currently under a very unstable air mass which means air will lift and cause storms when triggered. The storms will have high winds and very heavy rain. There will also be some isolated tornados.

Below is latest radar.

Be careful out there. I expect alot of lightning.

Maybe later this week I will break down why we saw all this severe weather over the past few days. Been a very interesting pattern.

Wednesday Update: Memorial Day Weekend Outlook

Good morning. As Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching, lets take a look at what the weather has in store. Overall, I like what I see. It will not be the warmest Memorial Day we have seen, especially directly on the beach, but nothing to frown at.

Starting off with Friday, A cooler winds keeps temps on the tame side especially up in New England...

Notice the temperature boundary between north and south. It will feel cold in Northern New England.

By Saturday, high pressure is in full control causing temperatures to rise in most places. Expect widespread 70's for Sat.

At the beach however a ocean breeze will keep the beach fronts cooler in the 60's....

A warm front then moves thorough Sat night causing some showers to develop..

This will then result in all areas including the immediate coast warming up Sunday into 70s and low 80s...

By Memorial Day... a small frontal passage Sunday night cools things down in New England but things stay warm for most areas. Expect more sunny skies after some showers Sunday night.

So there you go overall a nice weekend with just a few showers on tap.

Enjoy.

Wednesday Update: Miserable Weather is Over

Good morning. We just underwent a pretty depressing few days of weather. No one likes to see cold rainy days in mid May. In fact, the mountains of New England even saw snowfall from our last storm system!

The good news is the next few days will return to more seasonable conditions. We will see mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the low 70s. There is the chance of some showers on Friday but nothing that will make the day a washout.

Below you can see the frontal system that will cause showers on Friday...

That will clear out by the evening paving the way for a nice weekend.

The reason the weather has been so stormy and cold has been due to a area of high pressure over Greenland. This is called a - NAO pattern. It causes the jet stream to buckle and storms to consolidate over the eastern 1/3. If this was the winter we would be gassing up the snowblower frequently. Since it is May we were left with a cold rain. You can see this pattern below...

In the long range there are finally hints showing up of a summer like warm up along the east. A ridge of high pressure may develop causing warm and humid air from the south to rise into the region towards the end of May...

This would bring summer weather into the area. We will have to keep a close eye on if this trend continues. I have a feeling it may be pushed off a little still.

Wednesday Update: Finally A Nice Stretch of Weather

Good morning. After a miserable rainy weekend, we finally are currently under a nice stretch of weather. This will continue through the 1st half of the weekend with limited chances of any showers. We then may have some rain to deal with on Sunday.

High pressure is keeping the rain at bay...

As we get towards Friday, a front will increase the chance of showers and a few storms by Friday afternoon...

This will pave the way for a beautiful Saturday with high pressure in control again...

We then have the chance of another storm system for Sunday..

We will keep an eye on this and see how far it gets north.

Thats all for now, enjoy the week.

Wednesday Update: Stalled Frontal Boundaries=Unsettled Weather

Good morning. There will be more up and down weather as we finish up this week and head into the weekend. A stalled frontal boundary means there will be multiple chances for shower activity and cloudy weather through the next several days.

Tomorrows weather is a good example of this...

Temperatures will not be too warm however as backdoor cold fronts keep the area cool as seen by the tongue of blue (lower dew points)...

Things by the weekend stay unsettled with temperatures in the high 60's and the chance at some more showers and clouds. There is a chance that a  more steady rain can develop Saturday afternoon.

Not a great week overall. Lets hope this pattern breaks soon.
