Monday Note: Some Warmth, One Last Cold Shot Possible

Good morning. A quick note today. As we are now in spring, we start the climb up to pleasant temperatures and nice weather. However, with the atmospheric setup think year there will be a few bumps along the way. There is still alot of cold air up in Canada that needs to be watched.

In the short term, temps will warm up nicely towards the end of this week...

As we move past the Easter holiday however the cold air in Canada may try to spill south next week at one point...

It's an impressive pool of cold and given the pattern I see we would have to keep an eye out for one last winter type event by the end of the 1st week of April. History is on our side and the chances are still low, but the pattern could support it.

That's all for now.

  1. Hey Willy, I see that the GFS, Euro and CMC all develop troughs over the east for next weekend (7th to 9th range); looks like that could be the last chance for flakes in NJ for this season. The timing is different in the 3 models, not surprising given that we're about 10 days away. The telecom tea-leaves are mixed -- NAO could be neutral or somewhat + (less cold), PNA could be + (more cold), EPO + (less cold), MJO moving west into 8 and 1 zones (more cold). The GFS and CMC see some precip shortwaves forming under the trough and maybe just nicking us with a bit of slush. That might be an interesting way to end our season. I don't think we've seen any April snow in the 280 / 287 / Parkway zone in quite a few years. But this season was a late bloomer, so I'm sure you're keeping an eye on it. Jim G
