Mid-Week Update

Rain continues today into tomorrow with another 1-3 inches expected to fall over our region:

This again is due to an upper level low that has been slowly spinning and moving across the country for the past several days..

Things should clear up by Friday and temps by the weekend will be in the high 60's and 70's in some spots..

Overall its been a chilly spring this year, look at the temps depautures from normal over the last two weeks..

Heading into May, I expect seasonable conditions for the first two weeks. Climate signals are mixed on this, but after looking at the data I do not expect any big cold shots at this time.

Monday Weekly Summary: Alot of Rain

Bad storms hit KS,OK,AK, last night causing multiple deaths. I was showing the radar signatures of these storms over twitter. One tornado was on ground for several miles and hit the town of Mayflower AK. Storms will continue in the south today producing more possible tornadoes.

For our weather, the video below takes you though the rain this week and also the radar images from last night. All this weather due to the same powerful upper level low pressure center that is locked in over the country.

Wednesday Morning Brief Summary

Some topics I will go into more detail on in the next few days:

1. Colder than normal temps ahead for much of our forecast area into may. Here is an example of what the Climate Forecast System Model is snowing for departures from normal:

This is due to a few factors I will go into more detail on later.

2. Severe weather threat for central plains eastward this weekend

Super cell thunderstorms will develop ahead of a cold front approaching the Central US. This same storm will also produce snow in northern areas near the lakes!!

More on all this later.

Monday Morning: Rain to Start But Beautiful Weather to Follow

Good morning. Now that spring is fully underway we now are seeing a more spring like pattern. Around the country there has been severe weather and our area has seen rain and swings in temps, but nothing too intolerable. The same story will hold true this week. Rain will spread into our area later today and clear out by tomorrow. Great weather will follow this rain storm with temps moderating into the upper 50's and possibly the mid 60's by the weekend.

Here is the rain storm effecting our area tonight as a low pressure center cuts to our west..

I talked about a storm effecting the eastern third a week ago and here it is. Some high elevations of the mountain ranges in the interior can see some flakes with this system. No it is not a snow event and I never thought it would be for our area. I did think VT had a chance, but overall rain there too. The trough is not deep enough the models have backed off last few days on a deep cold trough.

Here are temps by Wed..

And by Sat..(might want to click to enlarge that one)

Sometime this week I am going to summarize the Winter of 2014 and take a look at how I did with the Winter Outlook I issued in November.

Showers and Rain Today, Clearing By the Weekend

The next week in pictures:

Showers and rain today as a front approaches our area..

Calm and pleasant conditions by the weekend with temps in the mid 50's..

Storm approaches our area early to middle part of next week with more rain (this is the storm I mentioned could form a few days back, it will cut inland causing us to be on the warm side). Still need to watch interior high elevations for winter weather with this one.

Finally we see above average temps hit the grids in the 5-10 day period

Enjoy the weekend.

Tuesday Morning: Bad April Fools Joke?

I talked yesterday about the winter like pattern that will evolve for the Northeast next week. Mostly I am focusing on the interior. Check out the latest European control models snowfall printout.

Doesn't mean this will happen as these snow print outs change everyday this far out. However, every model is hinting at this now. More info to come.
